Propane Generators

All Power America APG3560 6,000 Watt 13 HP OHV Propane Powered Generator with Electric Start & Wheel Kit

LP gas generators are typically recommended for use in areas not serviced by natural gas, therefore if your home is heated by an LP gas system, chances are an LP gas generator is the right choice for your home installation.  Depending on the size you select, an LP gas generator can power small appliances and lighting or your entire home.

Like most generators, there are both advantages and disadvantages to an LP gas generator:

  • LPG has a lower BTU content than diesel or gasoline powered generators, typically generating about 15% less power than a gasoline model and up to 30% less than a diesel model generator.
  • LP gas prices are normally cheaper than gasoline or diesel, however, because of the reduced output, can be as expensive as the other models to operate over the long run.
  • As with most portable generators, the selection of the fuel is based on the intended application.  If you expect to frequently move the generator from place to place, moving the propane cylinder may be an inconvenience.
  • LP gas (Propane) can be stored nearly indefinitely, and is generally the only type of fuel that can be refilled during a widespread power outage when gas pumps do not work.
  • Portable LP gas generators are more expensive than gasoline-powered generators, however they are normally easier to start in cold temperatures, and last longer.
